About Us: Who We Are and How We Work

Angila Zuhlke is an independent travel journal for people who plan their own trips and want the practical detail before they book.

Who we are

We are a small group of writers, photographers and former hospitality staff who got tired of hotel copy and listicles that never mention the final bill. Angila Zuhlke started in 2026 as a shared notebook of stays, rail routes and coastal walks, and grew into a reference for travellers who prefer evidence to atmosphere.

We are independent. We take no sponsored placements, and the archive stays free to read.

Our mission

Our mission is to explain what a stay or a journey actually includes, what it costs and when the cheaper option is the better one. We cover five sections: Coastal Villages, Heritage Hotels, Nature Retreats, Travel Planning and Scenic Railways.

If a hotel is overpriced, we say so. If a route is only scenic for forty minutes, we name those forty minutes. The caveat is part of the guide.

Editorial standards

No sponsored picks and no pay-to-rank lists. We book at public rates where possible, disclose any relationship and correct mistakes in public. Figures come from our own bookings, transport operators and official tourism boards, not from press releases.

When we recommend a place, we include the trade-off: the room above the bar, the beach that disappears at high tide, the sleeper cabin that is only worth it if you actually sleep.

The team

  • Angila Zuhlke, editor and lead writer, a decade of independent travel.
  • Elena Marsh, heritage hotels and scenic railways.
  • Daniel Okafor, planning, budgets and practical reporting.
  • Sofia Reyes, coastal villages and food.
  • Marcus Hale, nature retreats and long-form routes.

Supported by contributing testers who review every guide before it ships. If a claim does not hold up on the ground, it does not go out under our name.

Talk to us

Corrections, tips or a place we should check? Email [email protected], or use the contact page. We reply within one business day and read every message.

If you are planning a trip, start with Coastal Villages or our guide to choosing a coastal village stay.

Where we cite standards or safety advice, we point readers to public bodies such as UN Tourism and national tourism boards, alongside our own reporting.
